MORE ABOUT OUR STORY

It’s 2032, and Texas has seceded from the Union. With the formation of the New Republic of Texas (or NROT for its sycophants), there’s a new law of the land: childless women over 35 are now deemed “Redundant” and… killed. The stage is set for a grim Handmaid’s Tale-esque story, but, surprise! -- this is a comedy!

In the aftermath, four “Redundant” Austin city gals and former college roommates, led by ELEANOR (a White lawyer whose love of chore charts and whiteboards rivals her fear of falling short of perfection) go into hiding.
Eleanor is joined by KENDRA (a Black history professor and sardonic bookworm who studies ancient war tactics in hope of breaking her captured spouse out of confinement), then CASSIDY (a White CEO with a social media addiction who's in denial after being ousted from the beverage brand she built from the ground up), and lastly LOIZA (a Latina electrical engineer who can fix an old radio and game camera, but not her broken heart ).

Their plan? Hide out on an isolated, off-the-grid Texas homestead until the whole thing “blows over.” After all, how hard could ranch life be?

The women find out when they lose their shed full of dry food to unknown wildlife (“Bears, are there bears?”), encounter inhospitable soil for gardening, experience a tornado that takes out their electricity, and discover that well water is nowhere near as clear or convenient as Cassidy’s eponymous LÄKEwater.

Right when the besties finally get the hang of working together as a unit, a MAN arrives. Not just any man – a self-proclaimed ally! His appearance upends the social structure of the ranch. But just as they begin to trust the Man… they accidentally kill him. (Whoops.)
Truly on their own now, and grappling with the existential consequences of their life choices, the women must choose to stay, or go. But before they can leave, they must do one last thing together: fend off a band of bloodthirsty incels, Home Alone-style.

Lady Kings of Texas moves quickly, punctuated with laugh-out-loud story points in a wild ride that will surprise, entertain, and tug at the heartstrings. This dark comedy will leave viewers feeling deeply connected to these women; audiences will be smitten with and inspired by how female friendships can save us even at our lowest moments. At the same time, it presents the dire potential consequences of the overturning of Roe v. Wade and this country’s continued attacks on women’s reproductive freedom.
